Facing the past and the reconciliation process in the western Balkans

RDC President Mirsad Tokaca will participate in the international conference ‘Dealing with the past and reconciliation processes in the Western Balkans', which will be held on the 10th and 11th of November in Vienna . The conference has been organized by the Vienna Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe ( Vienna ), the Center for European Integration Strategies ( Geneva , Vienna , Sarajevo ) and the Observatory on the Balkans ( Italy ).

 

Presenting the RDC Information System in Indonesia and Colombia

Upon the invitation of the Indonesian Association of Families of the Disappeared (IKOHI – IKATAN KELUARGA ORANG HILANG INDONESIA), RDC President Mr. Mirsad Tokaca will participate in the workshop on Human Rights Documentation which will be held on 15-21 October 2008 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

 

Presentation in Vlasenica of Human Losses in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1991-1995 project

RDC President Mr. Mirsad Tokaca gave a speech and presented part of the Human Losses in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1991-1995 project to mark 16 years since the suffering of Bosniaks in the concentration camp Sušica in Vlasenica. His project presentation related to the suffering of Vlasenica residents.

 

Peace activism in the postwar period

Research and Documentation Center project manager Božana Puljic, and RDC graduate trainee Merdžana Subašic participated in the conference Peace activism in the postwar period , held in Ilidža from 12-14 September 2008.

 

Karadzic casts shadow over Bosnia's fate

“The arrest of Karadzic is a good sign that Bosnia and the whole region is strong enough to continue political and economic reforms, that will finally lead to reconciliation” said Mr. Tokaca in interview for BBC News.

The training program on the Information System for Human Rights Organizations

The Research and Documentation Centre, in cooperation and with the support of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the conference Information System for Human Rights Organizations, June 23rd- 27th 2008, at the RDC's Library and Club, in Sarajevo.

SCREENING OF THE MOVIE CARLA'S LIST AND PANEL DISCUSSION

The Research and Documentation Center is collaborating with the non-governmental organization Pravo Ljudski from Sarajevo and the Amnesty International Film Festival ‘Stiching Movies That Matter’ from The Netherlands as well as the local partners: Humanitarian Law Center (Belgrade) and Documenta (Zagreb) on the screening of the documentary film 'Carla's list' by Marcel Schüpbach and the panel discussion on the 13th of December 2007 at the UNITIC movie theater at 7 pm.

 

BAD MEMORIES - INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN ROVERETO

Mr Mirsad Tokaca, president of the Research and Documentation Centre, was involved in the work of the international conference Bad Memories: Sites, emblems and narrations of wars in the Balkans that was held on the 9th of November 2007 in Rovereto, Italy.

 

LECTURE IN LONDON ABOUT THE PROCES OF 'FACING THE PAST' - THE ROLE OF THE FACTS

Within the seminar 'Facing the past – The role of the facts', which was organized in London by the Oxford Research Group, Mr Tokaca, president of the RDC, held lectures on the 23 and 24th of October at the Royal Holloway Faculty, University of London and the Centre for global and trans-national policy.

 

REGIONAL CONSULTATIONS WITH JOURNALISTS ON TRUTH SEEKING AND TRUTH TELLING MECHANISMS

Humanitarian Law Center (HLC), Documenta-Center for dealing with the past and Research and Documentation center (RDC) organized the consultations in cooperation with the BH Journalists Association, the Vojvodina Independent Journalists Association, the Serbian Independent Journalists Association, the International Center for Education of Journalists (Croatia), and the International Center for Transitional Justice (New York) in Hotel Grand, Sarajevo, on 29 September, 2007.

 

Regional Consultations with Young People

Within the consultative process on the regional level, the Humanitarian Law Centre, the Research and Documentation Centre and Documenta, in collaboration with the Youth Initiative for Human Rights and the Croatian Youth Network are organizing the Regional Consultations with young people about the instruments and initiatives for establishing facts and truth-telling about war crimes in former Yugoslavia.

Within the consultative process on the regional level, the Humanitarian Law Centre, the Research and Documentation Centre and Documenta are organizing regional consultations with human rights organizations about the instruments and initiatives on the establishment of facts and truth-telling about war crimes in former Yugoslavia.

 

Report from the Presentation in Foca

The Research and Documentation Centre from Sarajevo supported by the Embassy of Great Britain and with the collaboration of the Municipal Councils in Foca and Foca-Ustikolina organized a public presentation within the project 'Conflict Prevention Public Debates', on October 11th 2007 in the National Theatre in Foca.

 

Truth against Conflict - Public Debate in Gorazde

The Research and Documentation Centre in Sarajevo, supported by the Embassy of Great Britain and with the collaboration of the Municipality of Gorazde, organized the second in a series of twelve public debates which have, as their goal, the development of the culture of dialogue in the Bosnian society and the removal of potential causes of conflict at the local level. The debate was held in the Cultural Centre on September 21st 2007.

 

With Truth against Conflict- Public debate in Srebrenica

On Tuesday, 18th September 2007 at 11.00 a.m. in Srebrenica, Research and documentation center in cooperation with the Embassy of Great Britain held the first debate, in a row of twelve debates aiming to develop the culture of dialogue in BiH society and in that way work on prevention of potential conflicts at local level.

 

THE APPROACH TO JUSTICE-STRENGTHENING OF THE INSTITUTIONS THROUGH THE CITIZEN ADVOCATING PROCESS

Supported by Spanish Agency for International Cooperation(AECI) and the Office for cooperation for Balkans(OTC), the Association Women to women, in cooperation with Research and Documentation Centre (RDC) and other partner organisations, successfully completed the project under the title „ The Approach to justice-strengthening of the institutions through the citizen advocating process“.

 

PRESENTATION OF THE "HUMAN LOSSES IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA 91-95" RESEARCH PROJECT RESULTS AND PROJECT EVALUATION

RDC is independent, non-profit, non-governmental, professional, and partisan institution with the goal to research and collect documentation, facts, and information on genocide, war crimes, and human rights violations, regardless of victims’ ethnical, social, religious, and racial background.

 

Visit of H.E. Ambassador of Canada to the Center

His Excellency, David Hutchings, Ambassador of Canada in Bosnia and Herzegovina paid the official visit to the Research and Documentation Center today.

 

Visit of French Institute to the Center

The representatives of French embassy in Sarajevo, French Institute – department for culture and science cooperation visited Center.

 

Oral History School

The Oral History School was held in period from October 22-th until October 26-th year 2006.  in Hotel Grand Sarajevo. The School was organized by Research and Documentation Center (RDC) in cooperation with associate organizations – Fond for Humanitarian Rights from Beograd and Documenta Center from Zagreb, under the patronage of the Holland Embassy.

 

Umam Documentation and Research from Beirut

Umam Documentation and Research together with the Heinrich Böll Foundation Middle East Office in Lebanon (Beirut) organized a roundtable discussion as a part of the event "Srebrenica – Crime and Punishment" on 29 April 2006 that took place in Beirut.

 

Current Initiatives and Perspectives in the west Balkan

International Conference hotel Saraj, Sarajevo, 5th and 6th May 2006.
This conference aims to provide an opportunity for a regional forum on the issue of truth mechanisms, with participation of interested parties from the region and international experts.
