The British Vision of the European Union: The Importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina

On Monday, March 17th 2008, H.E. Matthew Rycroft, the ambassador of Great Britain in Bosnia and Herzegovina held a lecture in the RDC Library and Club. The theme of the lecture was "The British Vision of the European Union: The Importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina." H.E., the ambassador, said that Bosnia and Herzegovina has to step up its process of approaching the European Union.

 

Postgraduate students from Scotland Visit Research and Documentation Center

Dr. Jason Franks, researcher from the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at St. Andrews University from Scotland together, with ten postgraduate students visited Research and Documentation Center while on a study visit to Sarajevo.

 

VISIT FROM UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA STUDENTS

RDC President Mirsad Tokaca met today with Professor Amy Ross from the University of Georgia in the Library and Club, who visited the RDC with a group of 30 students from the University's Geography Department.

 

DIRECTOR OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION FOR EU ENLARGEMENT VISITS THE RDC

During a visit to the RDC, the director of the European Commission for EU Enlargement, Pierre Mierrel, met with the RDC's president, Mirsad Tokaca.

Mrs. Maryse Berniau , the Ambassador of the Republic of France , on 18 February in the Library and Club gave a lecture titled 'Building of Europe: from the reconciliation of France and Germany to the creation of the future'..

 

HUMAN SECURITY

Ms. Christine McNab, UNDP Resident Representative and Resident Coordinator of the UN in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 11 February 2008, gave a lecture on the theme of "Human security" in the RDC's Library and Club.

 

ON THE ROAD TO EUROPE

Brigadier General Vincenzo Coppola, Head of the European Union Police Mission (EUPM) Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, gave a lecture on 30 January 2008, titled 'On the Road to Europe'.

 

THE RECONCILIATION PROCESS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND GERMANY IN RELATION TO TRAGIC HISTORICAL EVENTS

HE Jirí Kudela, the Czech Ambassador in Bosnia and Herzegovina gave a lecture in the RDC's Library and Club on the theme of 'The reconciliation process in the Czech Republic and Germany, in relation to tragic historical events.'

 

THE ROLE OF SMALLER MEMBER-STATES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

His Excellency, the Ambassador Niels-Jørgen Nehring from Denmark, on 19 December 2007, gave a lecture titled 'The Role of Smaller Member - States of the European Union'.

 

LECTURES

The RDC organize a series of lectures by foreign ambassadors working in Bosnia and Herzegovina , as well as representatives of foreign organizations and institutions. This series began in late 2007 and is continuing during 2008.

 

SCREENING OF THE MOVIE CARLA'S LIST AND PANEL DISCUSSION

On Thursday, December 13th in the UNITIC Movie Theater Pravo Ljudski and the RDC organized the screening of the film ‘Carla’s list’ and a panel discussion. The panelists were Marinko Jurcevic, chief prosecutor of BiH; Refik Hodzic, the representative of the ICTY; president of the RDC Mirsad Tokaca and professor Zdravko Grebo from the Law School, University of Sarajevo. The issues that were being discussed were the mandate of the chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte and the work of the ICTY.

 

ESTABLISHING DEMOCRACY AND RULE OF LAW IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Ambassador Douglas Davidson, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, gave a lecture on 3 December 2007 in the Library and Club on the theme of 'Establishing democracy and the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina'..

 

Advisory Committee on the Archives of the International Tribunals of the UN for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda

The representatives of the Advisory Committee on the Archives of the International Tribunals of the UN for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, professor dr. Eric Ketelaar, former employee of the national archives of The Netherlands and Mrs Cécile Aptel that use to work for the ICTY and ICC, came to the Library and spoke to the president of the RDC, Mr. Tokaca about the future location for the archives of the Tribunal (ICTY) as well as about how to ensure the access and preservation of the archives.

 

JUSTICE ADVOCATES NETWORK MEMBERS VISIT THE RDC

The Justice Advocates Network (JAN) training organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR), also included an opportunity to visit the RDC. Presentations about RDC projects were held in the Library and Club, and the participants were especially interested in the presentation of the results of the project Human Losses in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1991-1995 .

 

TADEUSZ MAZOWIECKI - A MAN OF CLEAN HANDS

Former Prime Minister of Poland and Special UN Repporteur for Human Rights in the Former Yugoslavia Mr. Tadeusz Mazowiecki was a guest of RDC from the 6th to 8th of October. Together with prof. Roman Wieruszewski- director of the Poznan Human Rights Centre.

RDC President Mirsad Tokaca presented the results of the Human Losses in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1991-1995 project as part of a workshop titled 'History and Theory of Violence in the 20th Century'..

 

Visit by the representatives of the Nansen Dialogue Center from Banja Luka and Prijedor

The representatives of the Nansen Dialogue Centre from Banja Luka, Nansen Dialogue Centre from Sarajevo, Municipal Council Prijedor, the entity parliament of the Republic of Srpska, Mr. Maricic, head of the project 'Police in the community' and Mrs. Nerkinic from the Youth Centre as well as Mr. Knezevic, a reporter from ATV visited the Library and Club of the RDC.

 

Collaborating with the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation and the Law School of the University of Zagreb

Nadira Herenda, the statistician of the RDC met today in the Library of the RDC with Dr. Peter van der Maas, the project manager from the Netherlands Institute for Was Documentation (NIOD) digital data and ICT policy Information and Documentation and mr.sc. Gabriela Gavran from the Law School of the University of Zagreb.

 

Tadeus Mazowiecki's lecture in the Library / Club of the RDC

Within the promotion of the book ‘Mazowiecki – Reports '92-'95’, which was published by the RDC and the University of Tuzla; and the granting of the honorary PhD title from the University of Tuzla, Mr Mazowiecki came for a two-day visit to the Research and Documentation Centre in Sarajevo.

 

Screening of the documentary by Tone Bringa 'We Are All Neighbors'

In the Library / Club of the RDC in Sarajevo the Norwegian Embassy showed the film 'We Are All Neighbors' by the Norwegian author Tone Binga on September 24th 2007. The film was made in 1993 and it speaks about the war in Central Bosnia.

 

DESTINY OF THE ICTY ARCHIVES

On 18 September 2007 in the premises of RDC Club and Library a round table was held with topic “Destiny of the ICTY archives”.

Participants of the round table were representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of B&H, Prosecutors Office of B&H, B&H Archives, non-governmental organizations as well as the representatives of B&H media.

 

VISIT OF EUFOR

The representatives of EUFOR, Commander Hans Jochen Witthauer, Major Remi Cazenave-Lavie, and political Adviser Niels Von Redecker visited Research and Documentation Centre's (RDC) Library and Club on September 03, 2007.

 

REGIONAL WORKSHOP

A regional workshop and meeting was held in the Library/Club on 23rd-25th August 2007 with representatives from Humanitarian Law Center, Documenta and the RDC.

 

CONFLICT PREVENTION PUBLIC DEBATES

As part of the Conflict Prevention Public Debates project, a meeting was held in the Libraary and Club on 21 August 2007, between representatives of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR), Mediacentar and the International Commission for Missing Persons.

 

THE VISIT OF THE STUDENTS FROM VIENA TO THE RDC LIBRARY AND CLUB

The presentation to the students from the University of Viena was delivered in the premises of the RDC Library and Club on 3. July 2007. They are the students of the Department of International Development of the Viena University, and as a part of the of their lectures they tackle the theory study from the field of political economy., while the field work study relates to BiH. RDC has the history of cooperation with the Viena University, organising presentations and providing the students with the opportunity for the field work. This has been the third presentation held for the students from this University, and the second for the students with their study focus on BiH. The work of RDC was presented and the results of the recently completed first phase of the project Human Losses in BiH 91-95. Presentation was delivered by the employees of RDC working on this project ..

 

YOUTH CONSULTATIONS HELD

Within the consulting process on mechanisms for truth determining and truth telling at regional level, the consultations with the youth representatives in BiH were held in the premises of RDC Library and Club on June 27th 2007.

 

THE PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CULPABILITY

Geoffrey Nice, chief prosecutor in the Slobodan Milosevic trial at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), gave a lecture to students on the theme of 'The presumption of innocence and the establishment of culpability'.

 

GRAND OPENING OF THE RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION CENTRE’S LIBRARY AND CLUB

Ambasador of Great Britain, Matthew Rycroft, Ambasador of Norway, Jan Braathu and President of Research and Documentation Center, mr. Mirsad Tokača have performed the public opening of the Libary and Club on Wednesday, June 20th 2007. at the 2 Dubrovačka street in Sarajevo.

 

AMBASSADOR WILLIAMSON DELIVERING A SPEECH AT THE RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION LIBRARY

During his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, U.S. Ambassador at large for war crimes Clint Williamson visited the Library of the Research and Documentation Center in Sarajevo.
