REPORT FROM SUMMER INSTITUTE ON ORAL HISTORY 2005 - COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, NEW YORK
From June 20th - 30th, 2005 at Columbia University in New York, annual Summer Institute on Oral History was taking place, which was featuring subject: "Living to Tell - Narrating Catastrophe through Oral History''. The main goal of the Summer Institute for this year was on the challenges of using oral history to document catastrophe in its immediate aftermath.
Representatives of Research and Documentation Center Selma Kapidzic and Lara Nettelfield through the lectures, presentations and discussions on the themes of the Institute, were able to see and participate in workshops on: using different kind of interviewing, developing community history projects, and recording audio and video oral histories for multimedia environments.
The lecturers during this year's Summer Institute were well known scientists and pioneers in Oral History field of work, Alessandro Portelli, Professor of American Literature of the University of Rome and Mary Marshall Clark, Director Oral History Research Office at Columbia University, as well as a number of other distinguished guest - lecturer.
Research and Documentation center representatives with the rest of the participants from different countries, beside listening lectures were able to present their projects and introduced other participants with their experiences.
