REGIONAL CONSULTATIONS WITH JOURNALISTS ON TRUTH SEEKING AND TRUTH TELLING MECHANISMS

Humanitarian Law Center (HLC), Documenta-Center for dealing with the past and Research and Documentation center (RDC) organized the consultations in cooperation with the BH Journalists Association, the Vojvodina Independent Journalists Association, the Serbian Independent Journalists Association, the International Center for Education of Journalists (Croatia), and the International Center for Transitional Justice (New York) in Hotel Grand, Sarajevo, on 29 September, 2007.

The participants were 33 journalists from Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo with aim to include them in the civil society debate on the truth seeking and truth-telling mechanisms. This debate started in May 2006. with the organization of the first regional forum in Sarajevo, which was followed by Forum in Zagreb, regional consultations with artists, and national consultations with youth. Three partner organizations HLC, RDC, and Documenta organized all mentioned events and are planning to organize regional and national consultations with Victims' Associations, Women's groups, non-governmental human rights and dealing with the past organizations, War Veterans Associations, and professional groups such as political analysts, historians, legal representatives, sociologists, etc.

The next two events within the consultation process on truth-seeking and truth-telling mechanisms are the regional consultations with youth planned for October 21, 2007 in Vukovar and regional consultation with Human Rights Organizations to be held on October 29, 2007 in Belgrade.
