ORAL HISTORY SCHOOL

The Oral History School was held in period from October 22-th until October 26-th year 2006.  in Hotel Grand Sarajevo. The School was organized by Research and Documentation Center (IDC) in cooperation with associate organizations – Fond for Humanitarian Rights from Beograd and Documenta Center from Zagreb, under the patronage of the Holland Embassy.

School, first of its kind in the region, gathered students, experts, activists of NGO from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, who got the chance to meet and discuss on Oral History School, its methodology and cause and possibilities of its implementation. Even though it was organized for employees and volunteers of associate organizations, because of great interest in its work persons interested in this theme from other institutions were involved.

The main aim of School was for participants to be introduced with contemporary methods and technique that are used in Oral History research. In five-days long seminar special attention was dedicated to methodology with emphasis on different types of interviews used in Oral History. Lecturers spoke about necessary techniques and activities of interviewing such us work on transcripts, work with camera, etc.

Part of the lecture was dedicated to the theme of memories, importance of memories, psychological effects and traumatically consequences on memories of people that experienced different catastrophes.

Participants had a chance to share their experiences through the panel discussion on methods and methodology they use or plan to use in future. Lecturers were prominent experts from Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, and from the region. Lecturers had a chance to hear lecture of experts:

In cooperation with the IDC stuff, lecturers participated in preparation of material for school, which included relevant literature leading expert from this field.

Oral History School was held in program Oral History 1992-1995, that was initiated by IDC with aim to gather and archive individual war stories.
